MEMBERSHIP:

1. Ordinary Membership:
The members who belong to this membership are provided assistance in securing monthly pensions from the State Government. They are also entitled for totally free medical care at the health camps carried out periodically at the coastal slums.
2. Special Membership:
The members of this category are entitled for free medical care. They are also involved in manufacture and marketing of items like eatables and material like washing powder, jams, pickles etc. Whatever is saved and with additional support from
MCDS, the members are taken out on picnics and pilgrimages. They are also provided with reading material for their afternoon gatherings.

Celebration of World Elders' Day:
The annual World Elders' Day celebrations are looked forward to by the elders themselves and the entire community . The large gathering usually includes senior officials from the Government, the
Church and other NGO’s.
The MCDS Elders’ Day programme has taken pride of place in the MCDS calendar. Leading up to this day were fresh survey at adopted areas, various competitions among different age groups, dental, eye and general health camps , practice and rehearsals for the main function etc.
Fully involved in this exercise were the elders themselves, MCDS staff, youth volunteers and the 16 social work students placed with MCDS from the various city colleges.
This year’s programme was at Srinivasapuram playground, Foreshore Estate. “The Sound of Music”, the music troupe of the visually challenged, a rehabilitation programme of MCDS was at hand to mesmerize the large gathering.
Honoured guests included Mr. A.X. Alexander IPS , Additional Director General of Police, Dr.
(Mrs)Cynthia Alexander M.D., D.G.O., Govt. Kasthurba Ghandhi Hospital, Chennai-5, Rev. Fr. Lawrence
Raj, Parish Priest, Santhome Cathedral Basillica, Santhome, Chennai-4, Mr. Nagarajan ,
National Sports Director, Special Olympics Bharath.
The ninety minute long variety entertainment was totally the elders’. Music, dance, skits- you name it and it was there, performed to perfection, much to the amusement and wonder of the gathering which surely included children, grand children and great grand children of the participants.
