Bro. Patrick s.g. is a member of the society of the Montfort Brothers, Province of Yercaud. He has vast knowledge and experience in the field of Academics and Education and Rehabilitation of persons with disabilities. He has put in many years of service in prestigious institutions such as Montfort school, Yercaud and RSK Hr Sec. School, Trichy. His contribution in the field of sports and games has been praiseworthy. A number of international performers like Roger Binny in cricket, N.Sivaraman and S.Ramesh in Volley Ball and P.K.Jaison, the hearing impaired International Athlete owe a great deal to his dedication and commitment.

Bro. Patrick continues to be actively involved in sports and games, particularly for those with disabilities. He is currently the President of Tamilnadu State sports Council of the Deaf. To him also must go the credit for the silver medal winning performance of Miss. Malathi Joseph at the recent World Special Olympics held in Ireland (Malathi Joseph is a resident of the Chennai coastal slums, a student of Montfort Community Development CBR programme. Malathi has a hearing disability, visual disability and mental retardation).

The high point in Malathi’s sporting career has been winning the silver medal as well as being congratulated by the President of India, the Prime Minister and Minister for Petroleum and Chemicals, whose ministry presented cash awards to a tune of Rs. 1,00,000 for a gold medal, Rs. 50,000 for silver and Rs. 25,000 for bronze.

Bro. Patrick’s involvement in sports and games stems out of the conviction that the most effective means of character formation among youth is by promoting sports and games among them.

Bro. Patrick, s.g. and St.Louis Institute for Deaf and Blind, Adyar, Chennai

St. Louis institute for deaf and blind established in 1962 serves the cause of the hearing disabled and visually disabled from across the country. What was once a lowly placed institution educating the disabled up to Std. X, under the stewardship of Br. Patrick St.Louis became junior college for hearing and visually impaired and ultimately a full fledged college, affiliated to the university of Madras offering a graduate degree in Commerce. A small printing press, which he inherited at St.Louis, was equipped with state-of-the-art equipment and machinery and upgraded as an Industrial Training Institute (ITI), financially supported by the Government of India.

It was when Bro.Patrick had fulfilled his dreams and with no challenges left at St.Louis, he took upon himself a still more challenging Integrated Community Development Programme that he christened Montfort Community Development Society (MCDS), named after St.Louis the Montfort (1673-1760), the great saint and social reformer who founded the Congregation of the Montfort Brothers of St.Gabriel. For Bro.Patrick Montfort Community Development Society is a humble but sincere attempt to follow this great saint and social reformer who equated service to God with service of man.
